How I understand "Journeys" today 🧭

"Journeys" is a not a new concept or a new product. When building systems from the bottom up, there is no "invention" or discovery; there is an identification of the systems that already exist and are in use and an explicit acknowledgement and determination to support those bottom up systems. Journeys is naming that system that already exists and empowering it.

In the soup of the metaverse there is A LOT going on and within that soup of high-energy excitement, sparse conversation, and prolific meme-sharing there are journeys happening: people and their projects are networking and connecting to the resources they need to make their dreams come true. We don't have a name for this, it's not a "grant" or a "networking event," it's just happening all over. But what connections are being missed? What conversations are not happening in the rooms that could be? Calling this remarkable potential a journey is just giving it a name and giving it a name identifies it as something valuable, something to observe, something to learn from. Being on a journey is being on a path to possibility - to connection to the greater power and knowing of the collective - to resources known and unknown and only unlocked through relationship and trust.

To quote the Journeys Spec,

Journeys is a system that supports trustful task creation or community initiatives [to] gain/obtain access to various community resources/commons in the shape of skills, funding, support, connections, anything that might propel an intrinsically motivated initiative.

The first "journey" to date - the first one given this name and acting under this rhetoric - is still underway, it's Akva's pizza day event in Brazil! And it's happening 22 may 22. You can follow the transaction history here of the MicroDAO created to support this event.

Here's a short interview between myself and hz.btc that happened within the original thread where this journey was born, in case some history and context is helpful.
