GovLab Consensus Tooling

Quite literally, when you hear "Modular consensus tooling" being used in the Advox DAO this is the part of the DAO that we're talking about: these channels; but really just the first two. Let me explain:

Active Issues

Active issues is where we start: someone (the Female or Male Wolf rep is we're using Indigenous Modes) raises a community issue.

A Discussion ensues as seen in the emerged thread for an established, customizable amount of time (in this case 5 days). This feature, the thread creation and duration discussion, is automated in the tooling. The time left for discussion will emerge in the thread like so (example from old previous discussion):

As you can see, 17 messages ensued to make up the deliberation on this particular topic. They can still be seen by Stacks Advocates in the #🔎 |active-issues channel in the Discord.

Formal Proposals

After deliberation and dialogue, the discussion moves to the formal proposals channel. Extensive time is taken for dialogue and deliberation of active issues. The goal is to maximize voices and come to consensus. This way, the formalization process is streamlined.

As you can see in the above example, there is an auto-population of emoji-reactions. The only requirement at this step to formalize the proposal is a lack of 👎🏼 or dissent.

The idea here is that any significant conversation happened in the dialogue in active issues. The number of 👍🏼 is irrelevant to the implementation process, it is simply a formalization. There can be any number of thumbs up on a passed proposal. Once a ✅ appears the proposal has passed the timeframe for dissent. The proposal will show up in passed proposals channel for posterity.

Conclusion

This has been a quick demonstration of the Modular Consensus Tooling at AdvoxDAO developed by hz.btc of the GovLab. The real magic - including how to make consensus scalable - comes from the Indigenous Modes, still being developed and integrated with the tooling.

Advocates can see the Clan Design + Tooling drafting document for more on implementation of the clan systems. It is underway!
