Arno Carstens with Gamma - BROKEN (LIVE)

Arno Carstens

This Wednesday, together with Stacks' premier marketplace Gamma, Arno Carstens will be dropping his genesis NFT single.

"Some songs only arrive at their destination or form, long after they have already been recorded and during the journey of being performed live. Broken is one of those songs. The power of the band gives the song a new energy and feel and it's my pleasure to share this take with you" says Arno Carstens of his genesis music mint.

The Springbok Nude Girls

The Springbok Nude Girls emerged during a time when original music from international stars was sanctioned in South Africa, and live music performances played out in isolation. This changed when SNG burst onto the scene.  Their historic rise to fame and ultimate cult status was documented in an award winning documentary about the band, called Springbok Nude Girls, The Film.

The band recently released their 6th studio album, Partypocalypse to rave reviews and are currently on tour in South Africa promoting the record. The album recently won a SAMA award for Best Rock Album and you can follow the band on Twitter here

Going Solo

In 2003 Arno released his first solo album, Another Universe. The title track, Another Universe has become arguably the most important track in his career and it remains Arno's most playlisted song, despite the multiplatinum, award winning albums and number one hit singles which followed it's release almost 20 years ago.

In addition to his career as lead singer of Springbok Nude Girls, Arno has also released six solo albums, winning music awards including Best Rock Album, Best Alternative Album & Song of the Year.

He’s been on the cover of Rolling Stone magazine, been called “The godfather of South African Rock” by Mail & Guardian and Sunday Times have hailed him as “One of the most prolific songwriters and performers of our time”

Fine Artist

Over the years, Arno’s passion for all things art has continue to overflow.

Arno was studying to be a graphic artist in the early 90’s when a friend introduced him to guitarist and producer, Theo Crous.  Through a series of serendipitous events which followed that meeting, Springbok Nude Girls were formed, and so Arno's focus shifted to songwriting, recording and touring for the next decade.

It was only in 2007, that he began working with his first love, oil on canvas once again, and only in 2012 was he ready to host his first solo exhibition, at The Lovell Gallery in Woodstock.

His artwork now sells internationally from his online store www.thearnocarstensstore.com or through pop up art and live music events which are hosted by him on a regular basis.

Arno continues to release new music.

Broken

In 2021 he released his 6th solo album, Out of the Light, Into the Night. To celebrate its release, a performance of the album, performed from start to finish, was filmed live at Lionel Smit Studio in Somerset West, Cape Town. The recordings have never been released.

Broken, is the 7th track on the album, and although it was never dropped as a single, it remains one of Arno's favourite live songs.

The album version of Broken was mixed by music producer Ross Macdonald/ Dabone and is available on all streaming services.
