Drog the Dwarf Ep 6: Townsfolk

While the dwarves are well-known in Nonnish, the primary inhabitants are the human townsfolk who call the kingdom their home. These humans have their own unique customs and traditions and play a vital role in the day-to-day life of the kingdom.

The majority of townsfolk live in rural areas and are typically merchants, craftsmen, and tradespeople. Often in small shops or workshops where they create goods to sell to others. Most towns have a central marketplace where merchants can gather to sell their wares. They live and work in tightly packed cities or smaller towns and trek into the cities during the day.

In the towns throughout Nonnish, humans can be found working in a variety of professions. Some are farmers, tending to the vast fields of wheat and barley, others are craftsmen and artisans, creating beautiful jewelry, pottery, and other handcrafted goods that are sold in the markets throughout the kingdom.

In those bustling cities of Nonnish, human merchants can be found hawking their wares in the markets and bazaars that line the streets. They sell everything from exotic spices and rare herbs to fine silks and luxurious furs.

But it's not all work and no play for the humans of Nonnish. They also have their own festivals and celebrations, such as the Harvest Festival, where they come together to celebrate the bounty of the land and give thanks for all that they have.

During the Harvest Festival, human townsfolk can be seen dancing and singing in the streets, while the aroma of roasting meats and baking bread fills the air. They feast on hearty stews and pies and enjoy the company of their friends and family.

During the daytime they compete in Harvest Helper competitions, making from scratch and the supplied materials in the competition their best scarecrow of skill and perfection. Creation is a simple and fun process that has been used for generations to yield shrooms and protect crops from nasty Greebles, pesky birds, and other animals.

In the evenings, they gather around bonfires, telling stories and sharing mead as they celebrate the passing of another year.

While the humans may be the backbone of Nonnish, the dwarves are also an integral part of the kingdom, contributing their unique talents and customs to the rich tapestry of life in this magical land. Have to shout out to Drog…

Housing for townspeople is often cramped and primitive, with families living in small homes or apartments with few amenities. Sanitation is also a major issue, with open sewers and limited access to clean water leading to frequent outbreaks of disease. Worst so in the smaller towns with crap pits and such.

In terms of social structure, townspeople are divided into guilds, which are organizations that regulate trade and set standards for craftsmanship. These guilds are highly influential in the lives of townspeople, as they control access to trade and commerce and often have significant political power as well.

Despite the difficult living conditions, townspeople have and enjoy a vibrant cultural scene, with music, theater, and art playing important roles in daily life. Festivals and fairs are common and provided a welcome break from the daily grind of work and poverty.

Overall, life for townspeople is marked by struggle, but also by a sense of community and a commitment to hard work and perseverance in the face of adversity.
