Stacks Feature: NeoSwap Party

I had some free time this morning, and decided to join a NeoSwap party. Have you ever done this? It is actually a lot of fun, but more than that it is a working concept with a ton of potential. So lets dive into this.

What is a NeoSwap Party?

To answer this first we must know what NeoSwap is. NeoSwap is a project on Stacks that allows users to meet and trade NFTs with each other. This takes place in a NeoSwap Party. You can easily find a party from the NeoSwap Party twitter account, they are running them hourly at this very moment. Once you find a time that works for you, one click and you are reserved. Neoswap will confirm this reservation via an email you have provided and you are all set.

So that is what I did.

As the party approaches the team does a great job communicating via Twitter, my party was for 1100 CST, and I saw a tweet from the team at approximately 1050 as a last call of sorts. I have to admit that I had been looking forward to this all morning. This would be my second time using the service, the first time was back in May, and it was a lot of fun. One of the coolest things about the experience is the social aspect of it. I got to interact with people who I know from Twitter, but also some that I didn't. This is done via a chatbox on the website, reminded me a bit of my Bitmex days (minus the trash talking lol). The very first time I used the service we were also doing a Twitter spaces at the same time. Now thanks to 3hunnatheartist.btc there is a soundtrack.

The next step is you go through your NFTs that you would be willing to trade, set floor prices for them, and then you see what the other party participants have to offer. You can then bid on what you like, all the while chatting with a group of people that you already have something in common with. So aside from the social aspect of this, and once you do it you really start to understand the scope of what is possible with this platform. In my mind I see colorful personalities hosting, special event parties, special guest, near limitless potential here.

As significant as the social aspect is the ability to trade an NFT that might just sit for sale on an exchange for a long time. For me I decided to trade a Wasteland Ape, a couple of Stacks MF'ers, and a couple of other odds and ends. I chose to bid on NFTs from collections that I either didn't already own, or some that I happen to be a fan of. I even managed to get an NFT that I nearly pulled the trigger on while browsing Gamma a while back. This activity in and of itself is fun enough to encourage growth with this project. It is reminiscent of my first times using Ebay, just this novel, cool, thing you haven't been able to do before; and realize that your life had been just a bit less cooler before this was an option.

Another aspect of the bartering featured on this platform is the ability to set up private trades between individuals. Lets say I want to trade this Mars Woman NFT, it is my favorite one from the collection. The STX that I would be tempted to ask for it is likely more than most people would want to pay. However there are NFTs from other collections that I really like, and if a counterparty wanted to put an offer together this would be the most efficient way to facilitate this trade....and I would be able to do it with no risk. As Bitcoin NFTs become more widely known in the marketplace, this will be a great way to move rare and exotic pieces between collectors.

After everyone makes their selections, the smart contract is created and you are notified via email when its ready to be signed. In the meantime you can hang out with your friends in the party, (and I have it on good sources that the team is going to bring even more features to enhance the already incredible user experience) or go resume your twitter shitpoasting. The choice is yours. Once everyone signs you let the smart contract do the work and that's a wrap.

I hope you enjoyed reading about NeoSwap today, and I hope to see you at a party soon. I don't have anything else to say for now, until next time. Jack.

The NFT featured today is Sicko Sloths #106. You can find these tattoo inspired little guys minting now at Gamma
