Stacks Feature: Satoshibles

I have to be honest, for the longest time I didn't really "get" NFTs. I was too busy trying to learn about virtual currencies, this magic internet money. I didn't give much attention to these pictures on the blockchain. Time passed, and before you know it NFTs had become this huge deal with an enormous market cap. Still didn't get them. Didn't particularly care for most of the art too, as a matter of fact. It wasn't really until 2021 that I started to understand what NFTs represent (ownership) and the inherent potential of this technology. Once I started paying attention, then I started noticing some really amazing art being traded.

These days I tend to conceptualize NFTs into two categories: NFTs for arts sake, and NFTs with utility. My favorite NFTs combine great art with utility, and this is why Satoshibles finds itself placed firmly in my favorite NFTs category.

Great art

Upon first laying eyes on the Satoshibles collection I couldn't pin down exactly why I found myself admiring the art style. It wasn't until I did a deeper dive into the project during the research for this article that I learned why. The Artist, Ayyoub Bouzerda is a comic book artist! I harbor a deep love of comic book art, as they were the means by which a clever Aunt tricked Jack into his lifelong love of reading. This is why the style of Satoshibles is so unique, and personally endearing to me. However, there is more to that. Many of my friends have Satoshibles, and somehow they all look different. This is at least partially due to the 192 different traits that can be found in a plethora of combinations within the collection, but it does not explain why I have seen a Satoshbile here and there that looks like Elon Musk! Its just great art that in my opinion is far superior to the vast majority of pfp's that come across my TL.

5,000 killer pfp's, but wait...there's more

Satoshibles were originally released on the Ethereum blockchain, and you can still buy them there. The thing is, not long after release, Satoshibles creator: Brian Laughlan learned about Stacks. When you "see Stacks", well, you just cant unsee it. So this presented a unique challenge to Mr. Laughlan, and he came up with an innovative solution. Brian created the very first Ethereum to Stacks bridge. Any Satoshibles NFT purchased on Ethereum can be transferred to Stacks, and vice versa. So we can add "badass dev" to the list of things that I admire about the Satoshibles project. The implications here go far beyond the tech. In my mind I can see many NFT projects using this tech to form their own bridge to migrate their art/communities into the Stacks ecosystem. This exposure to Stacks via the StacksBridge is not only a feather in the cap of the project, but brings new eyes to all projects within the Stacks ecosystem.

This handsome fella is part of the Satoshibles Monster collection, 50% of which were minted on Ethereum. The remaining 50% will be minted on Stacks, and if you already own a Satoshible on Stacks you will get a free mint, for Ethereum holders they too will have free mints for bridging over to Stacks. So it would be wise to follow Satoshibles and jump in their Discord to stay abreast of these newest developments

Community

Good art and solid tech/utility are important to me as an NFT collector. As a long time crypto enthusiast I have also learned the value of a good community. I am a Stacks guy for two reasons: smart contracts on Bitcoin, and the community is second to none. This should surprise no one, as I state this often. That said, when a project values community this truly is the icing on the cake. Satoshibles is a project that clearly shares my values when it comes to their community. This isn't only found in the utility of the bridge, and the bringing Ethereum and Stacks communities together, but within the project itself. Satoshible owners own the IP, and are encouraged to develop their own commercial ventures around their pfp's (Satoshibles even hosted a contest to this end). Brian informed me that there is a DAO in the making and a Satoshibles coin coming to market. The DAO will be made up of the community, and the community will be making decisions on the various ways in which the Satoshibles coin will be utilized. This is what its all about as far as I am concerned.

Confession time

During the research for this piece I developed quite the case of FOMO. Prior to really digging into this project I had already owned one Satoshible...and now I own another. While I never encourage anyone to trade like I do, I would be remiss not to encourage you to do additional research and come to your own conclusions. Also, this is the perfect time to show off my newest NFT.

The talent, innovation, culture, and tech found in Stacks is second to none. The market may be bearish, but you wouldn't know it by the work being done by the various developers and projects in Stacks. Even as someone who has tasked himself with learning about and reporting on projects such as Satoshibles, the fact of the matter is that I still find myself unable to keep up with the innovation. Much like the StacksBridge, this bodes well for us all.

Thank you for reading, as always, and I hope you enjoyed this piece. I never hate a follow on Twitter and while you're here it would be great if you gave me a follow on Sigle on your way out. That's all I have to say for now, until next time. Jack.
