Two Stories: The Outside Territories

The chill in the air was just right. This was going to have to be a fast run, and that old supercharger loved the cold air. "I hate these runs" he uttered to himself.

He was hauling 2,000 rounds of 7.62x39...all Russian steel and lead. The buyer traded 120lbs of red meat, one-half cow butchered, off the bone, for these rounds. The auction house contracted the beef delivery to another facilitator, and hired him for the "risky" run. The price of beef these days, who is to say which is more dangerous.

50 miles, half tank, suppressed MP5, 3 extra ma... "Rooster, you about ready to head out?" he heard before he could finish his mental notes. "Sure thing man, just have to grab the Winmag." "The 300?" Joel exclaimed! "We haven't had a problem with those spice freaks for months, and we just delivered a case of Pinot Noir to the Regional Minister...they should be off our backs for a while".

"Its not the fiends that I am worried about, I think there is a rat in the network. That last haul that went bad, the one with John, those weren't fiends and they weren't the Minister's men." He picked up the 300 Winchester Magnum, 165grains at 3300+ FPS out of the barrel, on the AR15 platform. He grinned "15 rounds of fuck you and everything you ever cared about". " I doubt I will need it, but its nice to have an insurance policy."

"That's what they say about you. "Rooster is the ultimate pragmatist"...if a bit of a gun nut". Joel smiled. "Safe travels my friend".

The Hemi howled like a banshee, stealth wasn't a concern when you were carrying a load this valuable. Speed, and firepower were your biggest assets. The community had spent their Stacks well with the investment into their highway security teams, and they were good about alerting facilitators to any possible hassles on the roadways. Still, those fiends were tricky, and Rooster just couldn't shake the feeling that someone was paying hired muscle to hijack cargo.

Someone trying to flag you down...speed up. Road blocks, these are a bit more tricky. Joel is his backup tonight, but this is a pretty long run.

"We will cross that bridge when we get there" he thought. It was a clear night, and nothing beats the feeling of 130mph on an empty road.

This is the introduction of some more characters in the story that I am crafting. The first preview can be found here. This is a work in progress, and I will be publishing bits and pieces along with some hints on where this is all going eventually. I hope you dig it so far, would love some feedback. A like, follow, and retweet go far, as does a follow on Sigle.
