Fractional Art on the Stacks Network

Want to use your debit card to buy digital art?

At the Electric Art Gallery you can. And lots more.

As part of a grant awarded by the Stacks Foundation a small team of tech heads and artists have set to work developing the Electric Art Gallery - a marketplace for fine art focused on the non-crypto audience.

Whats new about EAG?

Electric Art Gallery is different by design. We cater to small collections of fine art as opposed to large collections of traditional NFT art. This means we can make use of horizontal gallery layouts which feel more like a real gallery (note displayed in this post is a teaser - we are currently on testnet and have not yet released the actual artwork!);

We're experimenting right now and not just with oxymorons! SFTs (Semi Fungible Tokens) are a hot topic right now so we deployed a couple of contracts on testnet in order to investigate. They allow percentage based ownership of individual pieces - enabling artwork to be affordable or minted for shared ownership maybe within a collective or group with common goals, within a family for each member, for football fans or just individual collectors wanting to own a work of art that would otherwise be beyond reach.

The process is really simple. Find the work you like and click the buy button.

You'll be asked to enter;

  • an email address - where we can send a payment receipt

  • a stacks address - your own or a friends perhaps the artwork is a gift?

  • the amount or percentage of the artwork you want to buy

The payment screen allows the buyer to switch between card and bitcoin payment. And we can readily add options to buy with Stacks or Eth.

The really nice thing about Electric Art Gallery is that artwork can be bought as a gift with the swipe of a card which lowers the barrier to entry to people not familiar with crypto.

Our plan is to launch later in the year with a live popup gallery. We want people to come in from the cold and experience a genuine digital art gallery. And to be able purchase work for themselves or a friend with very little prior knowledge of crypto required.

Please stay tuned for further announcements - our popup gallery will be in Brighton in December - if you happen to be passing pop in and say hi!
