Approaching Nakamoto
Welcome to the Stacks Australia latest update.
On the eve of the Halving, things are ramping up for Bitcoin.
Just in time for the upcoming post-halving Nakamoto Launch Parties on the Gold Coast, Brisbane, and Melbourne, Swyftx has joined Stacks Australia in our line-up of partners. We are yet to finalize something for Sydney, but we hope to have that arranged soon. More details below.
So what's the news?
Competition heats up in the world of Bitcoin Layer 2's
House of Chimera recently released a comprehensive Overview of Bitcoin Layer 2 Solutions. With the popularity of $BTC's Layer 2 solutions, HOC has identified over 50 Bitcoin L2s, primarily employing Rollups or sidechains. The proliferation of Bitcoin L2 solutions is anticipated to grow in the coming months.

What does this mean for Stacks & How is Stacks different from EVM layers?
Sure, the next big thing post-Stacks and Rootstock Software's current success in holding the most TVL is the wave of EVM-compatible projects like Merlin, Botanix Labs, Citrea, Bison Labs, BOB on Interlay Network, and more.
Why? Most of the builders and DEFI users are in the EVM Ecosystem. An example of that success is that Bitcoin Inscriptions is 90% of the value staked on Merlin. Compared to Stacks, it is easier for ETH developers to build their own ecosystem.
Stacks, however, is taking a different approach. Take alexGo.btc, for example. They are not building DEFI to compete with ETH or Solana liquidity. They are building DEFI to compete within Traditional finance using Bitcoin. There is institutional comfort with Bitcoin, not other chains. Bitcoin could become an asset worth tens of Trillions of Dollars.
At Stacks, we are working on building Bitcoin-centric apps with smart contracts that share consensus with Bitcoin.
We will run in two different lanes unless EVM and Solana DEVs can achieve that.

The Nakamoto upgrade will begin rolling out between April 15 and 29 (the Instantiation window), which will kick off at least one month for Signer onboarding. After onboarding the signers, Nakamoto rules will go live in the activation window between May 15 and 29, and the launch will be finalized!
