💿 Youth Lagoon - Goodbye Again (2021) [YouTube] — Youth Lagoon’s music once freely flowed from the mind of the liminal pop mastermind Trevor Powers. then he dammed up that creative energy and (momentarily) retired the YL moniker to fully embrace the no-less mysterious but more descriptive “Trevor Powers” brand. this isn’t bad. Trevor released two spectacular albums, Mulberry Violence & Capricorn, both of which stand alone as captivating aural explorations. and now, seven years after the previous bookend album, Savage Hills Ballroom, Youth Lagoon has returned with Idaho Alien. “Goodbye Again” was a welcome surprise when it existed as a sweet, melancholic cherry on top of Youth Lagoon’s sonic sundae. even now, when the song has been superseded by an expansive new album, it will forever remain a favorite for me (& a bit of a tear-jerker whenever i listen to it on a departing airplane).

📺 New Ellijay Television — an independent TV station in Ellijay, Georgia, USA that is part of a broader “Ellijay Makerspace” ecosystem. they play lots of cool old content and interesting music, like:

✨ Mountain Town Coffee Roasting — i ordered cryptid-themed coffee from the Ellijay Makerspace via their Mountain Town coffee brand, but i haven’t tried it yet because i’m finishing some other coffee first. i also ordered some “Coffee & Cryptids” zines from them! Issue 1 was neat, and i’m excited to read the other 2 issues this weekend perhaps.

📄 What’s in a domain name? [Rest of World] — this short article shares a few different commonly-used top-level domains (TLDs) and the country they’re associated with. for example, “.ai” is Anguilla’s TLD and potentially generates $3 million per month for the country.

🛠️ Freesound — my current favorite site to find free sound effects. i use these sound effects in animations for Koo Koo & whatnot.

💿 Rayman Legends - Christophe Héral, Billy Martin (2013) [Tidal] — an incredibly spirited, instrumentally diverse exploration of vibrant videogame atmospheres. despite my fondness for the off-the-wall chaotic energy of many of the tracks, my favorite track might be “The Swamp Whistler.” this is one of my favorite albums of all time. i’m half-tempted to re-buy the game on Switch so i can play through it again (and listen to the music again.)

💿 RayTunes — i discovered this while looking up the Rayman Legends soundtrack. It lets you listen to any Rayman soundtrack you want and is a cute website. Rayman was one of the first videogames i ever played (on my grandparents’ beige PC, so the game/aesthetic holds a special place in my heart.)

🛠️ Kagi Small Web — independent (& personal-favorite) search engine Kagi has launched a “Small Web initiative.” In addition to adding support for “small web” content to its search index, the team also launched a Small Web website that lets you find random, probably underappreciated content from around the web. if you like small web stuff, you’ll also probably like: Marginalia Search, Wiby, & FrogFind.

🛠️ FrogFind — FrogFind is powered by DuckDuckGo but is optimized to run on old computers. it isn’t flashy at all, and it is great to use with the Lynx text-based browser.

💿 Heathens - Wolves At The Gate (2023) — the Twenty One Pilots song… but a bit more intense.

📺 Home Movies [Internet Archive] — the entire goofy, “Squigglevision”-enhanced cartoon series from the late 90s / early 2000s is available on the Internet Archive! Coach McGuirk is voiced by series co-creator Loren Bouchard, who later went on to voice Bob in Bob’s Burgers.
